Apple Prepaid Smartphones

What You Should Know Before Buying a Prepaid Apple Smartphone

Smartphone plans can sometimes offer features you dont need; but there is an alternative option: prepaid cell phones. If you want an Apple prepaid smartphone, there are a lot of choices when it comes to service providers and types of phones. Whether you make a lot of international calls or communicate primarily via text messaging, there is a plan to fit your needs.

What does unlimited data usage mean?

Unlimited can be a tricky term to understand. For most prepaid plans, it means that you wont be charged if you go over the allotted amount of data. However, once you pass that limit (which usually ranges from 500MB to 1GB), streaming will slow down.

Can you use your current Apple smartphone with prepaid plans?

Some cell phones can be easily set up for this type of plan. Your phone will need to be paid in full, compatible with the service carriers system, and unlocked. You may want to ask your new carrier if you can use your current smartphone before signing up for the plan.

What service carriers allow pay-in-advance plans with an Apple phone?

There are several service providers that will let you sign up for this type of plan with an iPhone.

  • AT&T: Apple cell phones available include the iPhone 5s, 5c, and 4s. You can also bring your own Apple phone as long as it is either from AT&T or it is unlocked and running on the correct network (GSM).
  • Sprint: The Apple iPhone 5s can be used with a Sprint pay-in-advance plan called Boost Mobile, while the iPhone 4s can be used with their SmartPlus plan.
  • T-Mobile: If you have an Apple phone already, the T-Mobile carrier will let you use it as long as it is unlocked and using the GSM network.
  • Verizon: You can use the iPhone 4 or 4s with the Verizon Wireless pay-in-advance plan, and you may also be able to use your own device.
What are the features that these service providers offer?
  • AT&T: The plan from AT&T is customizable, allowing you to choose the features you want. Theres also a low cost plan specifically for emergency-use only.
  • Sprint: The Boost Mobile and SmartPlus unlimited plans do not have an activation fee. They let you transfer your number to the new phone.
  • T-Mobile: T-Mobile offers unlimited plans and does not charge an activation fee. Their plans include unlimited global text; Call Me Free, which lets international callers dial you for free; and a $10 international call credit each month. You can also transfer your number to your new phone.
  • Verizon: Verizon has an unlimited talk and text plan and allows you to transfer your current phone number to your new device.
