Chevrolet Aveo Headlights

The Chevrolet Aveo replaced the Metro as Daewoo’s economy vehicle. The Aveo was available until 2011 and was offered as both a sedan and hatchback model. If you need to replace your Chevrolet Aveo headlights, there are many different options available.

What types of headlights are available for the Chevrolet Aveo?

If it is time to replace the worn-out headlights on your Chevrolet Aveo, you have more options than the standard factory headlights. Replacing your headlights is a great way to upgrade the look and character of your vehicle. Projector headlights are available that help to improve night vision and vision in inclement weather. These types of lights produce a sharp, more focused beam of light and include a custom housing to provide a distinctive look. LED headlight housings are also available, which are a great choice in foggy conditions. Halo headlights, also called Angel Eyes, are rings of light that surround the main headlight for extra visibility.

What types of lightbulbs can be used in the Aveo?

A number of different lightbulbs are available for the Chevy Aveo. Each of them has its own set of advantages and disadvantages, and which one you choose is a matter of personal preference. The Halogen lightbulb has been standard in automobiles since the early 1960s when it replaced the tungsten filament light bulb. The Halogen bulb is the most common type of headlight found and produces a yellowish light. The HID or Xenon bulb was introduced in the 1990s by BMW, but now many auto manufacturers use this type of light bulb. These provide a blue hue to the light emitted. LED, or light-emitting diode bulbs, have been around since 2004. They are used due to their long lifespan and energy efficiency. These are the main types of headlight bulbs available on the market.

Can you put an LED lightbulb in Halogen housing?

There are upgrades available for headlights on older vehicles, such as the Chevrolet Aveo. The question is whether you can simply place an LED lightbulb in housing designed for a Halogen lightbulb. The problem with replacing Halogen bulbs with an LED is that even though LEDs produce less heat, they are more susceptible to failure due to overheating. The bulbs do not produce much heat, but they do produce considerable heat from the diodes. They cannot dissipate heat effectively and usually have heat sinks or small fans to keep them at proper operating temperatures. It is possible to replace Halogen light bulbs with LEDs if you purchase a retrofit kit. These kits are designed to upgrade the existing headlights with minimal modifications to the original housing and circuits. Retrofit kits typically include a ballast to control the electrical power that the bulb receives and the cooling system with the required fan and heat sink. It is dangerous to simply replace a Halogen bulb with an LED bulb without the proper retrofit kit. Doing so creates the potential to melt surrounding plastic components or wiring.
