GMC Acadia Car and Truck Interior Switches and Controls

Maintaining the engine of your GMC Acadia is an important step to extend the life of your vehicle. Maintaining the switches and controls of your Acadia is just as critical, given the sheer number of electrical systems and controls within your car that operate lights, wipers, and dash displays. Fortunately, many of the switches and controls can be easily replaced on the Acadia when necessary with a few simple tools and instructions.

Do you need to replace the dashboard buttons?

There are a variety of different switches, buttons, and knobs on any given GMC vehicle dashboard. Understanding when you need to replace the units is directly related to the systems functionality in correlation with the switch or knob. Some scenarios to consider include:

  • The control still operates the system but the face of the control is unreadable. In this case, if your knob, button or switch still fully operates the system to which it controls but is unreadable, you may not need a replacement control unit but may simply need updated decals for the existing controls.
  • The control still operates the system but is broken, cracked, or damaged. If the control still operates the system but is showing signs of wear and tear, such as cracking, it may be wise to replace the control before further damage to it makes it difficult or impossible to operate the system.
  • The control is damaged and the system is not operable by the control. In this scenario, you should examine both the system itself as well as the control operating the system and discover if the root problem lies only with a broken control or if the system itself is experiencing issues requiring repair.
How do the different controls and switches work?

In any car or truck, be it a GMC Acadia crossover SUV or other GMC model, there are a variety of interior switches that allow the driver to operate different parts or electric-dependent systems on the vehicles exterior or interior, such as the windshield wipers, the sound system, or the power windows. Some of the different types of interior controls include:

  • Stalks, found on the steering column, such as windshield wipers or turn signals.
  • Rotary knobs or switches, often located on the dash to turn on and off and adjust up or down the level of a system, such as the sound or amount of airflow.
  • Push buttons, which simply turn a system on or off. These can be incorporated with other controls or be independent.
  • Rocker switches, most commonly found in power window controls, which can change from one setting to another, such as moving a window down then moving a window up.
