The release of the first "Super Mario" game dates to 1985. It followed the success of the popular 1981 "Donkey Kong" arcade game, which featured Mario as the antagonist. This game brings all of the most recognized "Super Mario" titles to the Wii. The five titles featured in the Wii version include adventures in the world of Mario. However, in 1994, a rereleased version of "Super Mario All-Stars" included a fifth title, "Super Mario World," from the SNES. In 2010, Nintendo released the "Super Mario All-Stars" 25th Anniversary Edition for the Wii, which included all five "Super Mario" titles and offered support for the Wii remote control. The Wii version also offers the ability to save game play progress.

"Super Mario All-Stars" includes remastered versions of five Super Mario titles for the original NES and SNES. These are "Super Mario Bros.," "Super Mario Bros. 2," "Super Mario Bros. 3," "Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels," and "Super Mario World." Nintendo originally released "The Lost Levels" in Japan as "Super Mario 2." The "Super Mario All-Stars" versions of these games are mostly unchanged from the Super Nintendo version, although they include support for game play with the Wii remote control.

"Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island" launched in 1995 for the Super Nintendo. In this version, Yoshi battles enemies to save Mario. However, unlike the prequel for the Super Nintendo, Yoshi's Island is not featured in any version of "Super Mario All-Stars."
