Verizon Flip Cellphones and Smartphones: What You Should Know

Whether you are opening a new Verizon Wireless plan or looking for a replacement phone, flip phones are a viable option. They are easily distinguishable in their appearance and performance characteristics. Smartphones with touch screens are also available from Verizon and can be found in new, used, and preowned conditions on eBay.

A flip phone has five distinctive properties that set it apart from other phone types. These features include:

• Clamshell shape: Like a clamshell, these devices have two sides connected by a hinge. Most open on the narrow edge, like the Samsung Convoy 3, although some will open on the long edge. This design results in a screen and keyboard layout that more closely resembles a miniature laptop.
• Informative covers: Most flip phones, like the Kyocera Dura XV, have a window that shows various notifications while closed, such as caller information. Some devices also have function buttons on the cover.

With so many options, it can be difficult to choose the right device. Some important factors to keep in mind include:

• Carrier: For security reasons, many major carriers limit their networks to phones specifically designed for that particular network. A Verizon cellphone is designed to work with a Verizon Wireless plan.
• Function buttons: Most flip phones and all smartphones come with a built-in camera and many other functions. Pay close attention to how these functions work. For instance, do you want more buttons on the exterior cover, or would you like to take photos with a button rather than the touch screen?
• Camera: Find a camera with a resolution and options that suit you. Smartphones tend to have both front-facing and rear-facing cameras. This is a good feature to look for if you like taking selfies.

Most cellphones will work internationally, but this will vary depending on the phone and how you want to use it. The band that the country uses may or may not match the band that Verizon uses. However, tri-band and quad-band phones can use multiple data types and are capable of flipping from one type of cell transmission to the next. Two options to investigate before you travel include:
